What you need, exactly

Four minutes of birth time equals about one degree of the Ascendant. Two hours equals a whole new rising sign. If your recorded time is rounded to the nearest hour, treat a rising sign near a boundary with suspicion.

Where to find your birth time

Start with the birth certificate, though be aware that in some countries the long-form certificate carries the time and the short form does not. Then: hospital records, your mother’s memory (imperfect but often close), a baby book, an old telegram or announcement, a family bible. If you were born in a country that does not record it at all, an astrologer can rectify a chart by working backward from major life events, which is slow and expensive but real.

If you genuinely cannot find it, calculate the chart for noon. You will get an accurate Sun, a Moon that is right unless it changed sign that day, and correct planetary signs. You will not get houses or an Ascendant, and any reading that claims to give you those without a time is guessing.

Work in this order. It keeps you from drowning.
