☀ What Is Leo Season?
Leo season is the four-week stretch when the Sun travels through the thirty degrees of tropical Leo, which in most years runs from around 23 July to 22 August. The exact changeover moves by a day either side from year to year, and because the Sun changes sign at one single moment worldwide, your time zone decides which calendar date that moment lands on. And here is the part that matters more than the dates: Leo season is not a Leo event. Wherever Leo sits in your chart, that slice of your life spends a month in direct sunlight.
Most articles about Leo season stop at “be confident, be creative, wear gold.” That is a horoscope for nobody. The useful version asks a different question: which house does Leo rule for you? Because the Sun in Leo lights the fifth house for someone with Aries rising and the twelfth house for someone with Virgo rising, and those two people are having completely different months. This guide covers the mechanics of the season, all twelve rising signs, the lunations, what Mercury and Venus add when they show up, what the season is honestly good for, and where it reliably goes wrong. If you want to know which house Leo occupies in your own wheel before you read on, draw your free birth chart first. It takes a minute, it costs nothing, and the rest of this page will land very differently once you know.

♌ Your Sun Sign Is One Placement Out of Ten ♌
Knowing you’re a Leo tells you what your Sun is doing. Your Moon runs your emotional life, your Rising sign is what people meet before you say anything, and Venus and Mars decide how you love and how you fight. The free chart maps all of it from your birth date, time and place, and reads it back in plain language.
✦ Get Your Free Birth Chart ✦♌ The Dates, and Why They Refuse to Sit Still
Every source you read gives you a slightly different pair of dates. July 22. July 23. August 22. August 23. Nobody is lying to you. The dates genuinely move, and once you understand why, the whole cusp-birthday panic dissolves.
The season is a position, not a date
Leo season begins the instant the Sun reaches 0°00′ of tropical Leo and ends the instant it reaches 0°00′ of Virgo. That is the actual definition. The calendar dates are just our attempt to write down where that moment usually falls. Nothing about the Sun cares what the calendar says.
Why the ingress drifts
A tropical year runs about 365.2422 days. Our calendar year runs 365 days, then patches the shortfall with a leap day every fourth year. So the Sun’s arrival in Leo slips about six hours later each year, three years running, and then the leap day yanks it back nearly a full day. Plot it out and you get a sawtooth: 23 July, then a bit later on the 23rd, then just over into the 23rd or occasionally the 22nd, then back. Same physics at the other end, which is why Leo season closes on either 22 or 23 August depending on the year.
Why your time zone changes the answer
Here is where most confusion lives. The ingress is a single event for the entire planet. If the Sun crosses into Leo at 03:00 UTC on 23 July, then it crossed at 20:00 on 22 July in Los Angeles, at 23:00 on the 22nd in New York, at 04:00 on the 23rd in Paris, and at 12:00 on the 23rd in Tokyo. One moment. Four different dates. So a baby born at 9pm on 22 July in California is a Leo, and a baby born at the same absolute instant in London is also a Leo, but a baby born at 9pm London time on the 22nd is still a Cancer. This is the entire reason the Cancer-Leo cusp question exists, and it is also why the honest answer to is July 22 Cancer or Leo is: depends on the year, depends on where you were born, check the chart.
The season at a glance
| Sun’s position | 0° to 30° of tropical Leo |
| Usual window | Around 23 July to 22 August (shifts by a day) |
| Length | About 31.4 days — one of the longest solar months |
| Element | Fire |
| Modality | Fixed |
| Ruling planet | The Sun, in its own sign |
| House Leo rules naturally | The fifth — play, romance, creation, children |
| Opposite sign | Aquarius, which is where every Leo-season full moon falls |
| Northern hemisphere | Deep summer, peak heat, holiday season |
| Southern hemisphere | Late winter, the last stretch before spring |
Worth knowing: Leo season is a touch longer than most people assume, because the Earth is near aphelion in early July and moving at its slowest along the orbit. The Sun appears to crawl through the summer signs. Cancer, Leo and Virgo each get about 31 days of solar transit, while Sagittarius and Capricorn get closer to 29 and a half. Leo season is quite literally one of the longest months of the zodiac year. If you want the plain-English version of the boundaries, the full Leo date range and when Leo season starts both go deeper on the edges, and whether an August birthday is automatically Leo answers the other half of the question.
☉ Why the Sun in Leo Behaves Differently
The Sun spends a month in every sign, but it does not have the same job in each one. In Leo it is in domicile, the old word for a planet sitting in the sign it governs. The Sun rules Leo. For eleven months of the year it is a guest in somebody else’s house, working through that sign’s rules and priorities. For one month it is at home with its own key.
What domicile actually changes
Think about the difference between doing your work at a borrowed desk and doing it at your own. Same work. Completely different friction. When the Sun is in Scorpio it still signifies vitality and identity, but it has to express those things through Mars’s house rules: privacy, intensity, controlled disclosure. When the Sun is in Aquarius it is in the sign opposite its own, and it has to justify individual want to a part of the chart that thinks in terms of the collective. In Leo there is no translation layer. What the Sun means and what the sign wants are the same thing.
The Sun’s significations are worth spelling out, because people reduce them to “your personality.” The Sun is vitality, the physical fact of being alive and warm. It is identity, the thing you are organising a life around. It is visibility, the part of you that shows. And it is authority, both the kind you hold and the kind you answer to. Run all four of those through the sign of the Lion for a month and you get the season’s flavour: people want to be seen doing the thing they care about, and they are less embarrassed than usual about wanting it. The Sun’s rulership of Leo is not decoration. It is the engine of the whole season, and what having the Sun in Leo natally means is the same mechanism running permanently rather than for four weeks.
Fixed fire is a hearth, not a spark
There are three fire signs and they burn in different ways. Aries is cardinal fire: ignition. The struck match, the sudden yes, the thing that starts and may or may not continue. Sagittarius is mutable fire: the blaze that jumps hedgerows and ends up two fields over, chasing something more interesting. Leo is fixed fire, and fixed fire is the hearth. It stays put. It needs feeding. It warms a room for hours rather than flaring and dying.
That single fact explains most of what people notice about Leo season and cannot name. The energy does not spike and vanish the way Aries season does. It builds through late July, sits at full heat through the first half of August, and only starts winding down in the last week. It is also why decisions made under this Sun tend to stick. Fixed signs commit. That is wonderful when you commit to the right thing and expensive when you dig in on the wrong one. If you want the element and modality laid out properly, Leo as a fire sign and what element Leo is both go into it, and how Leo relates to the other fire signs shows the three of them side by side.
The thing the Sun is not
One correction before we go further, because it saves a lot of disappointment. The Sun in Leo does not hand out confidence. It hands out exposure. Those are not the same. Exposure feels like confidence when things are going well and like a spotlight in an interrogation room when they are not. Every year, somewhere in early August, a person who was told this would be their bold and radiant month finds themselves lying on the floor wondering why everyone else’s summer looks better than theirs. Nothing has gone wrong with the astrology. The Sun turned the lights up on the part of their chart that Leo occupies, and what was in that room is now visible. Sometimes what is in the room is a mess.
Good news: a mess you can see is a mess you can do something about. That is genuinely what this season is for.
🏠 The Part Almost No Article Tells You
Your birth chart is a wheel cut into twelve slices called houses, and each slice governs an actual area of life: money, home, work, partnership, reputation, rest. Leo occupies one of those slices. During Leo season the Sun walks across it, degree by degree, for about a month. That is the entire transit. Everything else written about Leo season is commentary on that one fact.
Which is why generic Leo-season advice fails so often. “Post your art, go on a date, throw a party” is excellent guidance if Leo rules your fifth house. It is nearly useless if Leo rules your sixth, where the same Sun is asking you to fix your sleep, sort out your job, and stop ignoring the thing your body has been telling you since May.
How to find your Leo house in thirty seconds
The fastest method is whole sign houses, which is what most traditional astrologers use and what you can do in your head. Your rising sign is your first house. The next sign is your second, the one after that your third, and so on around the wheel. So if you have Sagittarius rising: Sagittarius is the first, Capricorn the second, Aquarius the third, Pisces the fourth, Aries the fifth, Taurus the sixth, Gemini the seventh, Cancer the eighth, and Leo lands on the ninth. Leo season is your travel-and-study month.
You need your rising sign for this, and you need an accurate birth time to get it, because the ascendant moves roughly one degree every four minutes. Twenty minutes of error can move you into the next sign. If you have never checked, the free chart calculator gives you the ascendant along with everything else, and the Leo rising profile is worth a read if it turns out to be yours.
A note on house systems, since someone always asks
If you use Placidus or another quadrant system, Leo may not sit neatly in one house. It can straddle a cusp, so that the first half of the season plays out in one area of life and the second half in another. It can also be intercepted, meaning Leo sits entirely inside one large house without ruling either cusp, which tends to produce a season that feels muffled and delayed rather than absent. Neither of those breaks anything. My honest advice: read the whole sign house first because it is the cleaner signal, then check your quadrant chart for the nuance. If the two disagree, the whole sign version usually describes the month better and the quadrant version usually describes the timing better.
Natal planets in Leo change everything
Here is the detail that separates a quiet Leo season from a loud one. If you have planets sitting in Leo in your birth chart, the transiting Sun conjoins each of them once a year, during this season, for about two days each. Those are the sharpest days of the month for you.
Sun crossing your natal Venus in Leo is the day something about love, money or beauty gets bright and obvious. Sun crossing your natal Mars in Leo is a surge of drive, and a shorter fuse. Sun crossing your Leo Moon is an emotional flare that clears within 48 hours if you let it. Sun crossing your Leo Midheaven is often a genuinely useful career day, the sort where the right person notices. Sun crossing your Leo Descendant pushes a partnership question to the surface. And if your north node is in Leo, the season is an annual nudge toward the thing you keep almost doing.
| Rising sign | House Leo season lights up |
| Leo rising | 1st — body, presence, how you are read |
| Cancer rising | 2nd — money, possessions, self-worth |
| Gemini rising | 3rd — speech, writing, siblings, short trips |
| Taurus rising | 4th — home, family, roots, private life |
| Aries rising | 5th — romance, creativity, children, play |
| Pisces rising | 6th — work, routine, health, daily service |
| Aquarius rising | 7th — partnership, contracts, the other person |
| Capricorn rising | 8th — shared money, debt, intimacy, endings |
| Sagittarius rising | 9th — travel, study, belief, publishing |
| Scorpio rising | 10th — career, reputation, public role |
| Libra rising | 11th — friends, networks, groups, long-range hopes |
| Virgo rising | 12th — rest, retreat, the unseen, letting go |
Find your row, then read the section below that matches it. If your rising sign is uncertain, read both candidate houses and see which month you recognise.
☀ Leo Season in Houses 1 to 4
First house — Leo rising
The Sun crosses your ascendant and then walks through your own first house for a month. This is your birthday season regardless of what your Sun sign is, because the first house is you: the body, the face, the way you arrive in a room. Energy usually climbs. So does the amount of attention you get without asking for it, which is the part Leo risings either love or find quietly exhausting depending on the rest of the chart.
What actually happens: people comment on how you look. Somebody says you seem different. You cut your hair, or you nearly do. Photographs of you get taken and, unusually, you do not hate all of them. There is a real physical component here too, because the first house is the body and the Sun is vitality. Most Leo risings sleep less and get away with it during this month, then crash in early September.
Use it for: anything that requires you to show up as yourself. Interviews, first meetings, launches, the ask you have been putting off. Do not waste this month on admin. The waste is the sin here.
Second house — Cancer rising
The spotlight moves to money, possessions, and the private question underneath both of them, which is what you believe you are worth. This is not a glamorous placement for the season, and it is one of the most practically useful.
What actually happens: you look at your bank balance more often than usual. Something you own becomes a topic, either because it breaks or because you finally deal with it. An earnings conversation surfaces. And here is the classic second-house Leo-season trap, so watch for it: the urge to spend on something visible and expensive as a way of feeling substantial. A Leo-flavoured second house buys the good coat. Sometimes that is correct. Sometimes it is a self-worth problem wearing a receipt.
Use it for: renegotiating a rate, tidying up subscriptions, asking for the raise, and separating the things you value from the things you were told to value. The way Leo handles money is a good primer on the impulse you are managing.
Third house — Gemini rising
Speech, writing, learning, siblings, neighbours, the daily traffic of your local world. The Sun in the third makes your voice louder in whatever medium you use it in. Not louder in volume. Louder in reach.
What actually happens: you write something that gets a bigger response than you expected, or you finally send the message you have been drafting since May. Conversations that have been circling for weeks come to a point. A sibling relationship gets warm or gets loud, and with Leo involved there is rarely a middle setting. Short trips multiply. Your phone gets busier.
Use it for: pitching, publishing, starting the course, having the direct conversation. This is the best four weeks of your year for saying the thing plainly. One warning: Leo in the third states opinions as though they were weather reports. Check that you are actually right before you commit to a position in public, because fixed signs find retractions humiliating. If a Leo sibling is in the picture, expect them to feature.
Fourth house — Taurus rising
The Sun goes to the bottom of the chart, into home, family, ancestry, and the private self that only a few people ever see. This is the quietest Leo season of the twelve, and people with Taurus rising often feel cheated by every article promising them a radiant month.
What actually happens: the action moves indoors. You care about your living space more than usual. You host, or you finally deal with the room you have been avoiding. A parent becomes a topic. Old family material surfaces, sometimes warmly, sometimes not. Under a Leo-flavoured fourth house there is often a wish to be recognised by family specifically, which is a particular ache that most people do not admit to out loud.
Use it for: making your home somewhere you actually want to be seen in. Fixing the lighting. Having the family conversation. Resting on purpose rather than by collapse. And if there is a Leo in your family, this is the month their needs get loud, which how Leo works inside a family and the Leo parent both unpack.
🔥 Leo Season in Houses 5 to 8
Fifth house — Aries rising
This is the one the generic advice was written for. Leo naturally governs the fifth house of the zodiac, so when Leo actually sits on your fifth cusp, the Sun comes home twice over. Romance, creativity, children, sport, gambling, and the specific pleasure of doing something for no reason other than that you enjoy it.
What actually happens: your creative output goes up and, more importantly, your willingness to show it goes up. Flirting gets easier. Dates get better. If you have children, they take up more of the month, usually in a good way. And there is a distinctly Leonine version of this transit where you stop hedging about what you make. The person who has been calling themselves “someone who sort of paints” says “I paint” without the qualifier.
Use it for: making the thing and showing the thing. Booking the date. Playing. The failure mode is treating the whole month as content rather than pleasure, so ask yourself occasionally whether you are actually enjoying this or just documenting it. Leo in the fifth house covers the natal version, and what a Leo-flavoured date looks like is a decent shopping list for the month.
Sixth house — Pisces rising
Work, routine, health, and the unglamorous daily machinery that keeps a life running. The Sun in the sixth is not a spotlight on a stage. It is the harsh overhead light in a kitchen at 2am, showing you exactly what needs cleaning.
What actually happens: your job takes up more room. Not necessarily your career, which is the tenth house, but the actual work: the tasks, the colleagues, the process. Something about your routine breaks or gets fixed. Bodies raise their hands during a sixth-house solar transit, so a niggle you have been ignoring becomes a doctor’s appointment. Pets feature, which surprises people every time.
Use it for: redesigning your day rather than your life. This is the best month of the year to rebuild a routine you will actually keep, because fixed fire has the stamina to install a habit properly. Start one thing. Not six. What Leo governs in the body is relevant here, and the Leo at work will describe at least one person on your team.
Seventh house — Aquarius rising
Straight across the wheel from your ascendant, into partnership: marriage, business partners, close collaborators, open enemies, and anyone you deal with one to one. Whatever the Sun touches in the seventh, it makes it about the other person.
What actually happens: a relationship moves. That could be forward, into commitment or a decision or a public step. It could be sideways, into a fight that has been pending. What it will not do is stay static, because the seventh with a fixed sign on it does not tolerate ambiguity well. Single people meet somebody, or realise they have stopped looking and mind more than they let on. Contracts land on desks.
Use it for: the conversation you have been having in your head with your partner instead of with your partner. Also for genuinely crediting somebody. Leo on the seventh wants a partner who shines, and the fastest way to improve a relationship this month is to say out loud, in specific terms, what you admire about them. Leo on the Descendant explains why you keep attracting the ones who take up space.
Eighth house — Capricorn rising
Shared resources, other people’s money, debt, inheritance, taxes, deep intimacy, and the psychological territory people would rather not walk through. The eighth is the least Instagrammable house in the chart, and a Leo season here is strange precisely because the Sun wants visibility in a place that does not grant it.
What actually happens: money that is not entirely yours becomes the topic. A joint account, a loan, a bonus, a bill that arrives with someone else’s name on it. Intimacy deepens or the lack of it becomes impossible to ignore. Something you have been keeping to yourself gets said. Under this transit people tend to confess, not because they planned to but because the Sun in the eighth makes concealment tiring.
Use it for: sorting out the financial entanglement you have been postponing. Having the honest conversation about what you actually need from someone. Ending the thing that has been over for a while. It is a heavier month than the calendar suggests, and there is nothing wrong with you if the “radiant summer” framing feels like a bad joke. How Leo handles vulnerability is the closest read to what this transit asks of you.
🌟 Leo Season in Houses 9 to 12
Ninth house — Sagittarius rising
Long journeys, higher study, publishing, law, foreign places, and the beliefs you organise your life around. The ninth is the house of the wider world, and the Sun here for a month tends to enlarge your sense of what is possible.
What actually happens: you book something. A flight, a course, a conference. Or you finish something that needs an audience beyond your own circle, which is what publishing means in the old sense. Conversations turn philosophical. You find yourself defending a belief you did not know you held that strongly, which is the fixed-sign fingerprint on a ninth-house transit. People with this configuration often meet somebody from a different country or background during Leo season and it changes how they see something.
Use it for: expansion that costs you something. Book the trip, submit the piece, enrol. The ninth rewards commitment, not browsing. Watch for the shadow, which is preaching. Leo on the ninth is convinced, and being convinced is not the same as being right. How Leo travels is a fun read for planning the trip.
Tenth house — Scorpio rising
Career, public reputation, the thing strangers know you for, and authority figures. This is the top of the chart, and the Sun reaching it is the single most visible solar transit of the year. If Leo rules your tenth, Leo season is your professional month and you should treat it like one.
What actually happens: someone with influence notices you. A promotion, a title, a public credit, an invitation to speak. Not always dramatic, but the pattern is consistent: work you did earlier becomes visible now. Bosses feature heavily. So does the question of whether you want the role you are being handed. And there is a real risk built in, because a Leo tenth house wants recognition badly enough to take a job for the title rather than the work.
Use it for: asking for the thing. Updating everything public about you, from your profile photo to your job title. Making one deliberate move toward the role you actually want rather than the next one up the ladder. Leo on the Midheaven is directly about this placement, and how Leo handles money and career plus the work Leo does best will both be useful this month.
Eleventh house — Libra rising
Friendship, networks, groups, communities, and the long-range hopes you are working toward. The eleventh is where you belong to something larger than yourself, and the Sun here for a month makes your social world unusually active.
What actually happens: the group chat comes alive. You get invited to things. A friendship deepens, or one quietly ends because the Sun in the eleventh clarifies who is actually in your corner. Online life gets busier and more consequential. People with this configuration often find a collaborator during Leo season, or get pulled into organising something they did not intend to organise.
Use it for: reaching out to the people you have been meaning to reach out to. Saying yes to the invitation. Also for an audit: which of these friendships is mutual, and which one have you been performing for? Leo on the eleventh has a habit of collecting an audience and calling it a friend group. Leo as a friend and Leo and social media are both on point for this month.
Twelfth house — Virgo rising
Rest, retreat, solitude, the subconscious, hospitals and institutions, and everything happening behind the scenes of your own life. The twelfth is the house immediately before the ascendant, which means the Sun is finishing a full lap of your chart and preparing to start a new one when it hits your rising sign next month.
What actually happens: you want to be alone more than usual, and you feel vaguely guilty about it because it is August and everyone is out. Sleep gets strange, sometimes deeper, sometimes full of vivid dreams. Things end quietly. Work happens that nobody sees, and that is not a waste, it is the point. Many Virgo risings report Leo season as their flattest month of the year, and I would push back on the word flat. It is not flat. It is internal.
Use it for: rest that you actually schedule. Therapy, journalling, the long walk, the retreat. Finishing loose ends before your solar new year begins in Virgo season. Resist the pressure to perform a summer you do not want. Leo-style self-care and how the sign handles stress are both more relevant to you this month than any advice about parties.
One more layer, if you want it. Whichever house Leo occupies, look also at where its ruler is. Leo is ruled by the Sun, so during Leo season the ruler is inside its own house, which is unusually tidy. But your natal Sun sits somewhere else in the chart, and that house gets pulled into the story too. Leo on your tenth with a natal Sun in your fourth means the career visibility of this month is entangled with home and family in some way. That kind of cross-reading is where astrology stops being generic, and it is why the whole chart is worth having. The rest of the Leo material lives in the full Leo section of the blog if you want to keep going.
☼ The Actual Texture of the Season
Set the houses aside for a moment and talk about the collective weather, because there is a shared mood to Leo season that you can feel even without a chart in front of you.
The volume knob turns up
The clearest signature is not confidence. It is amplitude. Whatever people are already doing, they do it a bit more loudly. The extroverts get louder. The dramatic get more dramatic. And the private get more pointedly private, because a room full of noise makes quiet people quieter. That last one gets missed constantly. Leo season does not make everyone outgoing. It raises the contrast.
You can watch it happen in ordinary life. Announcements cluster in August. Engagements, launches, resignations, the “I have some news” post. Weddings peak. Festivals, birthdays, the last big holiday before September resets everything. There is a slightly theatrical quality to the month, as though everyone is aware of being watched, which under a Sun in its own sign is more or less accurate.
Fixed means decisions stick
This is the practically important part and almost nobody mentions it. Leo is a fixed sign. Fixed signs commit, hold, and resist being moved. So a decision made during Leo season has an unusual amount of staying power, for better and worse.
The good version: you finally commit to the project, the person, the direction, and six months later you are still on it. The bad version: you take a position in an argument on 8 August and you are still defending it in October, not because it is right but because backing down now would mean admitting it was never right. Fixed signs experience retraction as loss of face. If you notice yourself digging in this month, ask one question. Do I actually believe this, or do I just not want to be the one who moves first? Leo stubbornness and how Leo argues both describe the mechanism in a person, and it works the same way in a season.
Generosity is real and it is not selfless
People are more generous during Leo season. Bigger rounds, better gifts, more praise handed out freely. This is genuine and it is also self-interested in a way I find rather likeable. Leo-flavoured generosity wants to be the source of somebody else’s good day. There is nothing hidden about it and nothing wrong with it. The gift is real, the pleasure of giving it is also real, and expecting the recipient to notice who gave it is part of the deal.
Where this curdles: generosity used as leverage. If you find yourself keeping a private ledger of what you have done for people, the season has tipped from warmth into accounting. Put the ledger down.
The heat is not a metaphor everywhere
In the northern hemisphere Leo season lands in deep summer, and the astrological description matches the lived experience so neatly that people assume the symbolism came from the weather. In the southern hemisphere it is late winter. The astrology is identical, because the tropical zodiac is anchored to the equinoxes and the Sun is doing exactly the same thing in Melbourne as it is in Madrid. But the texture is different. Southern-hemisphere Leo season is fire in a cold month: the warmth you make rather than the warmth you are handed. Firelight, a full table, colour against grey. If anything it is a more honest expression of fixed fire, which is about tending a flame rather than basking in one.

Leo season is not one uniform month. It splits into three ten-degree segments called decans, and each has its own ruler and its own distinct flavour. Almost nobody writing seasonal astrology bothers with this, which is a shame, because it is the difference between “August is Leo-ish” and knowing why the last week of the season feels nothing like the first.
First decan: 0° to 10° Leo, roughly 23 July to 1 August
Ruled by the Sun itself. This is Leo undiluted, the opening act, the purest expression of the season. Warmth without complication. It feels like the first properly hot day of the year: the mood lifts, people go outside, plans get made.
What it is for: beginnings that need presence. Announce the thing. Show up somewhere. If you are going to make a first impression this season, make it now, while the Sun is unmixed and the energy is fresh rather than fatigued. Anything launched in this window carries a distinctly personal signature. It will be associated with you, not with your team or your brand. That is either exactly what you want or exactly what you should avoid, depending.
Second decan: 10° to 20° Leo, roughly 2 to 11 August
Ruled by Jupiter through the fire triplicity, which lends it a Sagittarian colour. Expansion. Optimism. Generosity that overshoots. This is the most fun stretch of the season and the one where budgets die.
What it is for: scaling something up, saying yes to the bigger version, travelling, teaching, meeting people from outside your usual circle. The mood is confident and outward-facing. The failure mode is overreach: promising more than you can deliver, booking more than you can attend, spending on the assumption that the good feeling is a forecast rather than a mood. Jupiter does not know when to stop, and in a fixed fire sign it does not want to. Enjoy this stretch, and put one guardrail on it. Just one. Pick the number you will not exceed before the week starts.
Third decan: 20° to 30° Leo, roughly 12 to 22 August
Ruled by Mars through the same triplicity, giving it an Aries edge. This is the hot end of the season. Drive, urgency, competitiveness, impatience, and a noticeably shorter collective fuse.
What it is for: finishing. This decan has genuine force behind it and it is wasted on planning. Ship the thing, close the deal, run the last mile. It is also, reliably, when the arguments happen. Late-season Leo has all the fixed-sign refusal to move plus Mars supplying the heat, and that combination does not produce graceful compromise. If you have a difficult conversation to have, have it in the first decan. If it has to happen now, go in with one clear ask instead of a list of grievances.
One quiet detail worth knowing: the very end of this decan is where the Sun approaches Regulus, the brightest star in the constellation Leo, which sits at the beginning of tropical Virgo in our era. More on that in a moment. The three Leo decans covers what each one means as a birth placement, which is a different and equally useful angle.
| First decan | 0°–10° Leo · Sun-ruled · begin, arrive, be seen |
| Second decan | 10°–20° Leo · Jupiter-ruled · expand, travel, overspend |
| Third decan | 20°–30° Leo · Mars-ruled · finish, push, argue |
🌾 Two Fixed Points Worth Knowing
Fifteen degrees Leo: the true midsummer
The exact midpoint of Leo, 15°, falls around 6 to 8 August. In the old European calendar this is a cross-quarter day, one of the four points that sit halfway between a solstice and an equinox. The cross-quarters land at 15° of the four fixed signs: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. Which means Lammas, Lughnasadh, the first-harvest festival, is astronomically a Leo event, pinned to the middle of this season.
I find this genuinely clarifying. The first harvest is not the end of anything. It is the moment you find out whether the thing you planted in spring is going to produce. You cut the first grain, you look at it, and you know. That is the actual assignment of mid-Leo-season: not celebration for its own sake, but taking stock of what you made and letting it be seen. The party comes after, and it is earned.
Practically: the week around 6 August is the strongest week of the season. Peak heat, peak visibility, halfway through the Sun’s journey. If you are going to do one significant thing this month, do it then.
Regulus, at the very end
Regulus is the alpha star of the constellation Leo, the heart of the Lion, one of the four Royal Stars of Persia. In the tropical zodiac that Western astrology uses, precession has slowly carried Regulus forward, and it crossed from the last degree of Leo into the first degree of Virgo in our own era. So the Sun now conjoins Regulus right at the boundary, in the final day or two of Leo season, as it hands over to Virgo.
The traditional meaning attached to Regulus is honour and success, with a condition attached: the honour holds as long as it is not abused. Whether or not you take fixed-star astrology literally, that is an elegant note to close the season on. You spent a month being seen. What did you do with it?
If the constellation itself interests you, the Leo constellation and its symbol and the myth behind the Lion both go into the sky-lore properly, and the spiritual meaning of Leo takes the symbolic route.
🌑 The Leo New Moon
Every Leo season contains a new moon in Leo. That is not a coincidence or a good year, it is definitional: a new moon is the Moon catching up to the Sun and sitting in the same degree of the same sign. Sun in Leo, Moon meets it, new moon in Leo. The lunar cycle runs about 29.5 days and Leo season runs about 31, so there is always room for exactly one, and once in a long while the timing squeezes in two.
What it actually is
A conjunction, exact to the minute, of the two lights. The Moon is invisible because it sits between us and the Sun with its lit face turned away. Symbolically that is a seed under soil: something started that cannot be seen yet. Which is why the new moon is the beginning of the lunar month rather than a highlight in the middle of it.
What to do with it, specifically
Generic new moon advice tells you to set intentions. Fine, but intentions about what? Here is the version with actual information in it. The Leo new moon falls in the same house Leo rules in your chart, so it is the annual reset button for that exact department of your life.
Leo on your second house: this is the best day of the year to start a new financial habit or open the account. Leo on your sixth: rebuild the routine today, not in January. Leo on your tenth: apply for the role, send the pitch, change the job title. Leo on your seventh: this is the day to open the conversation with your partner rather than rehearse it. Leo on your twelfth: begin the therapy, book the retreat, start the practice you will not tell anyone about. Same lunation, twelve different assignments, and the reason people find new moon rituals hollow is that they were never told which room they were standing in.
Timing it without overthinking
The exact conjunction is a moment. The usable window is the two or three days after it, while the Moon is waxing and moving away from the Sun. Working in the 24 hours before a new moon is the balsamic phase, the dregs of the old cycle, and it tends to feel like effort against a headwind. Wait for the turn. Then act.
A practical version: write one sentence, not a list. Fixed fire does one thing well and six things badly. One sentence, present tense, naming a concrete action rather than a feeling. “I send the pitch on Tuesday” beats “I welcome abundance” by a mile. The new moon in Leo goes further into the ritual side, and how Leo-flavoured manifestation works covers why declaring things out loud matters more under this sign than under most.
🌕 The Full Moon That Isn’t a Leo Full Moon
This is the single most common mistake in seasonal astrology content, and it is worth being blunt about it. The full moon that occurs during Leo season is not a full moon in Leo. It is a full moon in Aquarius. Every year. Without exception.
The mechanism, in one paragraph
A full moon happens when the Moon is exactly opposite the Sun, which is why we see it fully lit. Opposite Leo is Aquarius. So while the Sun is in Leo, any full moon must be in Aquarius. The full moon in Leo happens six months away, when the Sun is in Aquarius, roughly late January to mid February. If you have seen an article promising you a powerful Leo full moon in August, the author has not worked out how the sky operates, and you should weight everything else they wrote accordingly.
Why the Aquarius full moon matters so much here
Because it is the built-in corrective to everything Leo season is pushing, and it lands right in the middle of the month. The Sun in Leo asks: what do I want, what is mine, who sees me, what am I making. The Moon in Aquarius answers from the other side of the wheel: what does the group need, is this fair, what happens to everyone else if you get what you want, and does the crowd actually care as much as you think it does.
That opposition is the emotional pivot of the season. It is where the plan you were so sure of on 1 August meets the reality of other people. Friendships get tested at the Aquarius full moon. So does the difference between an audience and a community. If Leo is your fifth house, this full moon lights your eleventh, and the question becomes whether the thing you are creating has anyone waiting for it. If Leo is your tenth, the full moon lights your fourth, and the question becomes whether the career push is quietly costing you your home life.
How to handle it
Full moons reveal rather than initiate. Do not start things. Do not make the announcement. Read what has surfaced, and if it is unwelcome, sit with it for 48 hours before you respond, because the Leo-Aquarius axis produces the kind of pride that turns a small correction into a permanent estrangement. The full moon in Leo covers the winter one properly, and Leo and its opposite sign explains the axis in detail. If you want the relational version, Leo and Aquarius compatibility is the same tension in human form.
♀ When Mercury and Venus Come Along
The Sun is not the only thing moving through Leo. Mercury and Venus orbit closer to the Sun than we do, so from Earth they never wander far from it, and both of them pass through Leo somewhere near the season most years. Whether they are actually in Leo during Leo season varies, and that variation is a large part of why one Leo season feels different from the last.
Mercury: never more than 28 degrees from the Sun
That elongation limit means Mercury can only ever be in the sign before Leo, in Leo, or the sign after. During Leo season Mercury is somewhere in Cancer, Leo or Virgo, and it may cross more than one of them. Some years it races ahead into Virgo by early August. Some years it turns retrograde and comes back.
When Mercury is in Leo the change in how people talk is easy to spot. Speech gets declarative. Opinions arrive with the confidence of facts. Storytelling improves noticeably, because Leo Mercury understands structure, timing and a good ending in a way that Gemini Mercury, for all its speed, often does not. The cost is proportional: admitting a mistake gets much harder, and a Leo Mercury would genuinely rather be interesting than accurate. If a conversation this month turns into two people performing certainty at each other, that is what you are watching. Mercury in Leo covers the natal version.
Mercury retrograde does sometimes fall in Leo, and when it does the flavour is specific rather than generally chaotic. It brings back creative work you abandoned, old messages you regret, and people who once had your attention. It is a genuinely good window for rewriting and re-editing something you made. It is a poor one for signing a public-facing contract or launching to an audience, which is unfortunate timing given what the rest of the season is asking for.
Venus: never more than about 47 degrees from the Sun
A wider leash, so during Leo season Venus can be anywhere from Gemini through to Libra. Roughly every other year the two line up and you get Venus in Leo across part of the season, which is when the month earns its reputation.
Venus in Leo makes courtship theatrical in the good sense. Effort becomes visible. People plan the date rather than suggesting drinks. Compliments get specific. Generosity spikes and so does spending, particularly on things that are beautiful and completely unnecessary, and if you are going to blow a budget on a season, this is the one. The shadow is that a Leo Venus wants love with an audience, and it can confuse being adored with being known. Those come apart quickly if nobody notices the difference. Venus in Leo and the Leo love language both go into how that plays out.
The outer visitors
Mars is not tied to the Sun at all. It takes close to two years to circle the zodiac and spends six to eight weeks in an average sign, far longer when it retrogrades there, so Mars in Leo overlapping Leo season is uncommon. When it does happen the month is noticeably hotter: more drive, more competition, more collisions, and a sharp rise in people quitting jobs dramatically. Mars in Leo describes the fuel.
Jupiter passes through Leo for a year at a time, roughly once every twelve. Those are the expansive Leo seasons, the ones people remember. Jupiter in Leo covers the generational flavour. Saturn takes about twenty-nine years and stays around two and a half in each sign, so a Saturn in Leo period puts a weight on the whole season: less spectacle, more responsibility, and a demand that the confidence be earned rather than assumed. Neither is something you can plan around annually, but if a particular Leo season felt heavier or larger than usual, this is usually why.
| Sun | In Leo every year, all season, by definition |
| Mercury | In Cancer, Leo or Virgo — never further than 28° from the Sun |
| Venus | Anywhere from Gemini to Libra — up to about 47° from the Sun |
| Moon | Passes through Leo for two to three days once every month |
| Mars | Six to eight weeks in Leo, roughly once every two years |
| Jupiter | About a year in Leo, once every twelve |
| Saturn | Around two and a half years in Leo, once every twenty-nine |
Worth remembering that the Moon crosses Leo every single month, not just this one. Two or three days of Leo Moon every four weeks: brief warmth, brief drama, brief generosity, then it moves on. Leo season is that same quality held for thirty times as long, which is exactly why it registers as a season rather than a mood.
✦ What the Season Is Genuinely Good For
Advice is only worth reading if the reason behind it holds up. Here is what Leo season actually supports, with the mechanism attached rather than the vibe.
Launching anything that needs to be witnessed
The Sun signifies visibility, and it is at full strength in its own sign. Whatever you put into the world during this month gets seen more than the same thing put out in, say, Pisces season, when the collective attention is diffuse and inward. That is not magic. It is a month when people are outward-facing, checking their phones on holiday, and unusually willing to respond to something with warmth in it.
Practical version: if you have been sitting on a project waiting for the right moment, this is a better moment than most. Do not wait for the polish. Fixed fire holds, but it also refuses to move, and a project can sit in draft for a decade because you are waiting to feel ready.
Asking for things
Not because the universe is feeling generous, but because you are more willing to survive a no. That is the actual change. The Sun in its own sign raises your tolerance for exposure, and every ask, whether it is a raise, a date, a favour or an introduction, is an exposure. The rejection has not become less likely. Your relationship to it has changed.
So make the list now. The raise. The invitation. The thing you have wanted to ask someone for months. Ask in the first decan while the Sun is clean, not in the third when Mars has made everyone twitchy.
Finishing and showing, rather than starting
Leo has a reputation for grand beginnings and it is half wrong. Fire signs start things easily, yes, but the specifically Leonine skill is performance: taking something already made and presenting it. Aries starts. Leo shows. If you have a drawer full of half-finished work, this season is far better spent pulling one thing out and putting it in front of people than adding a new item to the drawer.
Repairing a relationship where somebody felt unseen
This is the most underrated use of the month and I would put it near the top. The Sun in Leo is enormously good at one specific repair: acknowledgement. Not apology in the general sense. Credit.
The version that works sounds like “I never said it out loud, and you did most of the work on that.” The version that does not work sounds like “I’m sorry you felt that way.” If somebody in your life has been carrying something without recognition, name it specifically, in front of other people if you can. It costs nothing and it lands harder in this season than in any other. How to apologise to a Leo is built on the same principle, and it works on most people, not only Leos.
Updating how you present
The first house and the Sun both concern appearance, and this is the month when people change their hair, their wardrobe, their profile photo, their whole public register. There is nothing shallow about it. How you present is information you are broadcasting continuously, and updating it after a year of change is basic maintenance. The Leo glow-up and Leo style are both good prompts for the month, and the colours associated with Leo if you want to lean in properly.
Play, without a deliverable
The fifth house is Leo’s natural home and the fifth house is play: activity engaged in for its own sake, with no product at the end. Most adults have quietly deleted this category from their lives. Leo season is the annual reminder that it existed.
Test for whether you are actually playing: would you still do it if nobody ever found out? If the answer is no, you are performing, and performing is fine but it is not rest. Do one thing this month that produces nothing. The fifth house in Leo is worth reading on this.
⚠ Where Leo Season Goes Sideways
Every season has a characteristic way of failing, and Leo’s failures are as predictable as its gifts. Knowing them in advance is most of the defence.
The comparison trap
The Sun in Leo makes everyone more visible, which means everyone’s highlights are more visible, which means the gap between your ordinary Tuesday and everybody else’s curated August is at its widest point of the year. This is the single most reliable source of misery during Leo season and it catches people who consider themselves immune.
The mechanism is worth naming because it defuses it a little. You are comparing your internal experience, which includes the boredom and the admin and the 4am worry, with other people’s external presentation, which includes none of that by design. Not a fair fight. Never was. Leo and social media is about the sign but the dynamic is universal, and August is when it peaks.
Leo season is expensive
Fixed fire plus visibility plus a Jupiter-ruled middle decan produces a very specific spending pattern: not lots of small purchases, but one or two large, visible, slightly theatrical ones. The outfit. The trip. The dinner where you insisted on getting the bill. Look at your August statements across a few years and you will probably see it.
The fix is not austerity, which nobody manages in this season anyway. The fix is deciding the number before the second decan starts. One line in your notes app. You will not stick to a vague intention under a Jupiter-ruled fire decan, but you might stick to a figure.
The ego snag
Here is the scene, and if you have lived through a few Leo seasons you will recognise it. You put something out. You had been nervous about it for two weeks. Three people react. One of them says “nice.” Somebody you specifically hoped would see it does not appear to have seen it. And you feel something disproportionate that you would rather not name, and you certainly are not going to mention it to anyone, and it colours the next two days.
That is a Sun-in-Leo injury and it is completely ordinary. The reason it stings more this month is that the season raised the stakes on being seen, so not being seen registers as a verdict rather than an oversight. It is almost never a verdict. People are on holiday, the algorithm is arbitrary, and most of the audience you imagine is not paying attention to anything. Why attention matters so much to Leo is the deeper version of this, and everyone has some Leo somewhere in their chart.
The stand-off that will not end
Fixed sign arguments do not resolve. They entrench. Add the Mars-ruled final decan and you get the classic mid-August stalemate: two people who both know they are partly wrong and neither of whom will go first.
The way out is not a compromise, because Leo does not negotiate positions. The way out is to state a want instead of a position. “I want us to be on speaking terms by the weekend” moves things. “I still think I was right about Thursday” does not. And say the specific thing you appreciate about the other person before you say anything else, because under this Sun a person who feels respected will concede an enormous amount, and a person who feels dismissed will concede nothing at all, ever, on principle. How Leo handles conflict and Leo anger both describe this pattern in a person.
Performance replacing substance
The subtlest failure. Everything gets a little more presented this month, and somewhere in the middle you can lose track of whether you are doing the thing or doing a version of the thing for an audience. The friendship becomes a photo of a friendship. The creative work becomes a process video about creative work. The holiday becomes an obligation to have visibly enjoyed the holiday.
Small correction: keep one thing entirely private for the whole season. Do not mention it. Do not photograph it. It will be the part of the month you remember. Leo and vulnerability is about exactly the gap between the presentation and the person, and the sign’s harder traits covers the rest honestly.
☾ When It Feels Like Nothing At All
A section nobody writes, and the one I get asked about most. Some people get to the end of August having felt precisely nothing, and conclude that either astrology is nonsense or something is wrong with them. Usually neither.
Reason one: Leo is in a quiet house for you
Twelfth, eighth, sixth and fourth house transits do not announce themselves. They are interior, private, slow, or administrative. If Leo rules one of those in your chart, your Leo season is genuinely happening, it is just not happening in public. Ask a different question. Instead of “did anything exciting happen,” ask “did I sleep differently, did something end, did I finally deal with a bill, did I want to be alone.”
Reason two: you have no planets in Leo
Transits register more strongly when they touch something. If your chart has nothing in Leo at all, and nothing in the other fixed signs to catch the aspect, the Sun crosses an empty stretch of your wheel and there is not much to activate. That is normal. Roughly half of any given season is empty sky for most people.
Reason three: your chart runs cold
A chart heavily weighted toward earth and water experiences fire seasons the way a person from a cold country experiences a heatwave: aware of it, not enjoying it, waiting for it to pass. There is no obligation to have a radiant August. Some of the most impressive people I have read for find Leo season faintly embarrassing and come alive in Scorpio.
Reason four: something bigger is running
A month-long solar transit is weather. A Saturn transit is climate. If Saturn or Pluto is currently sitting on something important in your chart, the Sun’s four weeks in Leo will barely register against it, in the same way a sunny afternoon does not change the season. Nothing has failed. You are just reading the small print while the headline is elsewhere.
The honest summary: a Sun transit is a light, not a lever. It shows you what is already there. If your life is in a quiet phase, Leo season will show you a well-lit quiet phase. That is still information. How to actually read a Leo horoscope gets into why generic forecasts miss so often, and the daily Leo horoscope question covers the same ground on a shorter timescale.
📅 A Four-Week Plan You Can Actually Use
Structure beats inspiration, especially in a season that hands out plenty of the second and none of the first. Here is the month laid out against the decans and the lunations. Adjust by a day or two for the year you are in.
Week one: the Sun’s own decan, roughly 23 July to 1 August
Do the boring part first. Find out which house Leo rules in your chart and write it down somewhere you will see it. That single piece of information turns the rest of the month from horoscope noise into a plan.
Then pick one thing to be visible about. One. Not a theme, not an intention, a specific thing with a name. Then make the ask you have been avoiding, while the Sun is unmixed and your nerve is highest. First impressions made this week carry a personal signature that lasts.
Week two: Jupiter’s decan, roughly 2 to 11 August
This is the expansive stretch and probably where the new moon falls, though it moves year to year. When the new moon arrives, start the thing in the house Leo rules for you. Write one sentence describing a concrete action, not a feeling.
Set your spending ceiling before the week begins, because you will not set it during. Say yes to the invitation that is slightly outside your usual circle, since Jupiter’s decan is genuinely good at introducing you to people from elsewhere. And around 6 to 8 August you cross fifteen degrees, the midpoint, the old first-harvest mark. Take stock of what you have actually made this year rather than what you meant to make.
Week three: past the midpoint, roughly 12 to 17 August
Show it to someone. Whatever you started, put it in front of one human being who will tell you the truth. The Aquarius full moon usually lands somewhere near here and it functions as a reality check: the group’s response to the individual’s idea.
Take that response seriously and do not respond to it for two days. Mars is now colouring the season and reactions get sharp. If a friendship is going to wobble this month, this is when.
Week four: Mars’s decan, roughly 18 to 22 August
Finish. Ship. Close. Do not start anything new, because the season is running out and Virgo will want to edit rather than create. This is the week to run the last mile on whatever you began, and to have the difficult conversation only if you can go in with a single clear ask.
In the last day or two the Sun approaches Regulus and crosses into Virgo. Good moment to ask what you did with a month of being visible.
Ten small things worth doing
None of these require belief in anything. They are just well matched to the season.
Sit in actual sunlight for ten minutes without your phone. Send the message you have been drafting. Take one photograph you would be willing to print and frame. Spend money on an experience with witnesses rather than an object without them. Tell one person, specifically and out loud, what you admire about them. Wear the thing you have been saving for an occasion that never comes. Finish one abandoned creative project rather than starting a new one. Say your opinion in a room where it is slightly unpopular. Do something with your hands that produces nothing useful. Book the thing.
Two more if you want them: the days traditionally considered lucky for Leo gives you a timing framework, and Leo-style self-care is a better guide to recovery than the generic bath-and-candle version, because it accounts for the fact that some people rest by being around others rather than away from them.
⭐ If You Are a Leo: Your Solar Return
For everyone else Leo season is a transit. For you it is a birthday, in the precise technical sense that most people never learn.
What a solar return actually is
The Sun was at some exact position when you were born. Say 14°22′ Leo. Once a year the Sun comes back to that exact degree and minute, and that moment is your solar return. It is the astrological birthday, and it does not always fall on your legal one. Because of the leap-year sawtooth, the return can land the day before or the day after the calendar date on your passport, and it happens at a specific time of day rather than at midnight.
Which means: if you were born at 11pm, your solar return might be at 4am on the day after your birthday. Astrologically, you are still the previous age until it happens. Genuinely useful to know if you have ever felt like your birthday landed a day late.
What the month means for you
Vitality is at its annual high, and so is visibility. This is the strongest month of your year for asking, launching, being seen, and starting anything that needs your personal presence behind it. Energy tends to run ahead of sleep, which is fine for four weeks and expensive if you carry the habit into September.
The failure mode is specific and I will say it plainly: Leo season is the month when Leos most reliably assume that everyone is thinking about them. Sometimes it is true. Mostly people are managing their own August. The birthday that felt underattended, the message that did not come, the party where the wrong people showed up: these are the reliable small heartbreaks of the season, and they are almost never about you being unloved. The Leo birthday and which birthdays fall under Leo cover the calendar side.
Everyone gets a solar return
Worth saying, since eleven twelfths of you are not Leos. Whatever your sign, your own solar return works exactly the same way, in your own season. What makes the Leo one distinctive is that the Sun is also in domicile, so a Leo’s birthday month has the ruler at full strength. It is the only sign where the annual reset and the ruling planet’s home turf coincide. Small thing. Explains a lot about the reputation.
If you want the full picture of what the Sun is doing in your own chart alongside your Moon and Rising, the Sun, Moon and Rising combination is the clearest starting point.
❓ What People Get Wrong About Leo Season
“It only matters if you’re a Leo”
The most common one, and the reason most people find the season useless. Every chart contains all twelve signs. Leo is in yours whether or not it holds a planet, sitting on one of your house cusps and quietly governing that department of your life. When the Sun walks through it, that department gets a month of attention. There is no chart on Earth that Leo season skips.
“The August full moon is a Leo full moon”
Covered above, and worth repeating because the error is everywhere. Full moons sit opposite the Sun. Sun in Leo means the full moon is in Aquarius. The Leo full moon is a winter event, in Aquarius season. If a source gets this wrong, it is telling you it did not check.
“The dates are fixed”
They are stable, not fixed. 23 July to 22 August is a reasonable shorthand and it is wrong for a lot of people at the edges. The boundary is a position, the calendar is an approximation, and your time zone is part of the calculation. The month Leo covers lays this out clearly.
“It will make you confident”
It makes you visible. Confidence is one possible response to visibility. Self-consciousness is another, and it is at least as common. If your Leo season involves lying face down on the sofa wondering why everybody else is having a better summer, the astrology is working exactly as described. The spotlight is on. What it found is a separate question.
“It corresponds to the constellation Leo”
This one deserves a real answer rather than a dismissal. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, which is anchored to the equinoxes and solstices, not to the stars. 0° Aries is defined as the spring equinox point. The signs are twelve equal thirty-degree segments of the Sun’s annual path measured from there. Because of precession, that framework has drifted about a sign away from the constellations of the same name over the last two thousand years, so when the Sun is in tropical Leo it spends roughly the first half of the season sitting visually in front of the constellation Cancer, and only reaches the stars of Leo itself in mid August.
This is not an error somebody failed to notice. It is a deliberate choice about what the zodiac measures. Tropical astrology measures the relationship between the Earth and the Sun, which is what produces seasons. Sidereal astrology, used across most Indian traditions, measures against the fixed stars instead and gives different dates. Both are internally consistent. They are answering different questions. The Leo constellation covers the stellar side and what the name Leo actually means covers the etymology.
“Mercury retrograde ruins it”
Mercury retrograde is three weeks of slightly worse communication and an increased chance of revisiting something. It is not a curse and it does not cancel a season. If it falls in Leo, use it to rework something you already made instead of launching something new, and hold off on the big public announcement until it stations direct. That is the whole adjustment.
“Everyone becomes an attention-seeker”
Uncharitable and also not true. What rises is the wish to be acknowledged, which is a different thing and one every human has. Watch for it in yourself before you diagnose it in others. The person you find insufferable in early August is usually doing badly the thing you are also doing, more quietly. Why the sign attracts so much criticism is worth reading on this, and a set of straight facts about Leo clears up several others.
♍ How Leo Season Ends
Around 22 or 23 August the Sun crosses 0° Virgo and the season closes. The handover is one of the sharpest in the zodiac, because Leo and Virgo have almost nothing in common. Fire to earth. Fixed to mutable. The Sun to Mercury. Spectacle to correction.
You can feel it in ordinary life without any astrology at all. Late August is when the holiday photos stop and the back-to-school stationery appears. The mood turns from “look at this” to “fix this,” and it turns fast. Everything Leo season handed you in expansive, generous, slightly unedited form gets picked up by Virgo season and taken apart to see whether it works.
That is not a punishment. It is the correct order of operations. You cannot edit something that does not exist yet, which is why Leo comes first. Make it, show it, then improve it.
What to carry across the boundary
Three questions, worth answering in the last few days rather than in September when the momentum is gone. What did I make this month that deserves to be finished properly? Who did I connect with that I should follow up on before it goes cold? And what did being visible show me that I did not want to see?
That third one is the valuable one. The Sun does not create problems, it lights them. If Leo season revealed that your work has no audience, or that a friendship is one-directional, or that you have been performing a version of a life rather than living one, you now have that information at the exact moment the zodiac hands you a season built for repair.
If your birthday sits on the edge
People born in the final days of Leo season often read as a blend, and the astrology backs the feeling up even though technically there is no such thing as being born on a cusp. Your Sun is in one sign or the other, full stop. But Mercury and Venus can easily be in the neighbouring sign, and if your Sun is at 29° Leo with Mercury at 4° Virgo you will genuinely feel like both. The Leo-Virgo cusp unpacks that properly, and the same logic runs at the other end with the Cancer-Leo cusp.
One last thought before the practicalities. Leo season gets sold as the month of confidence, and I think that framing does it a disservice. What it actually offers is permission: four weeks in which wanting to be seen is not embarrassing, wanting credit is not petty, and making something without knowing if it is any good is a reasonable way to spend a Tuesday. That permission expires around the twenty-second. Use it.
